#707 Out of Peace by Giles Duley
Description
Description
It’s a cover that carries with it a tragic story, yet one filled with hope. Above all, Giles Duley’s image speaks to our present: a present marked by conflict, violence, and death. So what is this object, poised between brutalist design and a mechanical insect? Giles Duley (Wimbledon, London, 1971), a war photographer (now also CEO of the Legacy of War Foundation, writer, and chef), is a man who has walked through the ruins of destruction, until a landmine (similar to the one in the photo) in Afghanistan in 2011 cut his path short, taking both his legs and an arm. From that moment on, his gaze has focused precisely on those deadly traps designed to kill. Duley’s perspective has since become sharper, more essential, more symbolic. On June 19 in Padua, during the opening of his exhibition Out of Place, dedicated to refugees around the world, Giles Duley will speak at an event at the University of Padua, presented by Enrico Bossan of the Imago Mundi Foundation. The cover will also be released as a digital collectible edition, further emphasizing the value of photography not only as a form of denunciation but also as an act of resistance, a challenge to fate, and a means of awakening conscience.
