Description
It is a stylized self-portrait of the artist, almost like an imprint suspended in space. Behind him, immense and motionless, is the red sun of the Japanese flag.
Marcos Morau (Valencia, Spain, 1982), one of the most acclaimed figures on the international choreographic scene, created the image for our cover especially for la Lettura, incorporating symbolic elements of his artistic practice.
Morau’s art extends beyond dance to embrace disciplines such as photography and theatre, through which he creates imaginary worlds where movement and image merge into a stage language of extraordinary visual power.
A special artist for a special issue: from Tuesday, la Lettura will be available at newsstands in a special collector’s edition featuring a QR code which, via the Corriere Art Collection app, provides access to its NFT version.
Among his many international collaborations, Marcos Morau has developed a particularly close relationship with Oriente Occidente, the dance festival in Rovereto, where on 11 September he will present the world premiere of Living & Leaving: bodies seeking one another, swaying, letting themselves fall.
This, too, is Morau’s theatre: transforming fragility into form, uncertainty into movement, the body into an open question.
