The female face on our cover is more than a portrait. It is a threshold, a meeting place between the identity of the person being photographed and that of the viewer. In fact, the image was captured from a wall in Paris: it is an advertising poster. The title, “Eyes on Me,” is a poetic statement, an invitation to create a small enchantment, a point of encounter where light turns into memory and the face becomes a story. With this image, “la Lettura” pays tribute to Nino Migliori (Bologna, 1926), a master of Italian photography, who celebrates his 100th birthday on 29 September. A special artist for a truly special issue: from Tuesday, “la Lettura” will be available at newsstands in a collector’s edition featuring a QR code that, via the Corriere Art Collection app, provides access to the NFT version of the artwork. A great experimenter, Nino Migliori has explored many different visual languages: from his most sophisticated investigations into photosensitive materials to his encounters with humanity through an ethical approach to photojournalism. Our cover can be seen as a manifesto for his entire body of work: a constant and vital practice of freedom. “Eyes on Me,” then, not as a way of possessing the world, but as an invitation to keep discovering it.
