Description
The silhouette of a face, built from overlapping fragments, appears as a threshold that trembles between presence and dissolution. It is a face that does not seek homogeneity or unity. On the contrary, it offers itself as a territory of collisions: surfaces that fail to align, dissonant colors chasing one another, details uprooted from their origin and stitched together into a new imaginary skin. Skygolpe, the artistic name of Mattia Sommovigo (La Spezia, 1986), is an artist working at the crossroads of painting, installation, photography, digital art and NFTs. Not by chance, our cover (available from Tuesday) can be purchased in a special collector’s edition equipped with a QR code, through which viewers can also watch a video created specifically for this release. With a background in philosophy and a deep love for existentialist thought, Skygolpe is now one of the leading Italian figures in digital art, engaged in a constant dialogue between physical and virtual expression. For the artist, the silhouette is a way to approach the human being without attempting to define them a point of access to the human dimension that speaks not the language of identity, but that of the universal. It is as if Skygolpe, through his empty, mute yet powerful faces, were giving form to the words of Jean-Paul Sartre: “God is Silence, God is Absence, God is the Solitude of men.” Gianluigi Colin - Courtesy of the artist
