Description
Why is this little man hanging on the wall? Christoph Radl’s work, from the Fat Boy series, is a direct reference to Maurizio Cattelan’s iconic performance, in which he taped his gallerist to a wall and later the famous banana.
The protagonist of Radl’s works is a surreal, chubby, childlike figure that draws inspiration from pre-Columbian imagery, but which for the artist becomes a sort of alter ego, not for its appearance, but for his passion for and closeness to contemporary art.
This cover is part of Corriere della Sera’s special Art Collection, and starting Tuesday a collectible issue will be available, complete with a QR code offering access to many animations of the work.
Christoph Radl (St. Gallen, Switzerland, 1954; Milanese by adoption) is an internationally renowned Art Director (currently Creative Director of Cabana Magazine), known for his work in fashion and design.
As a graphic designer he conveys a refined, minimalist vision; as an artist, through his clumsy, caricatural character, he moves within the realm of irony: a figure that is at once playful and critical, both victim and accomplice of the art system that turns everything into emotions but also into power and market.
